Company Activity

La Banque Postale is a French bank, created on 1 January 2006 as a subsidiary of La Poste, the national postal service.

The bank provides service to over 10.8 million active private customers, as well as more than 400,000 businesses, professionals, social economy actors and local public sector bodies. The company is considered to be one of the leading lenders to local authorities, maintaining an expansive branch network in France consisting of over 17,000 contact points and 7,700 post offices. It is the only bank in France charged with the responsibility to implement banking services to the public under a legislative initiative to modernize the French economy in 2008. 

La Banque Postale reports a net income of €5.602 billion, -2.5% relative to 2015.

Focused on regional development, La Banque Postale harnesses French people’s savings for local development and energy transition projects in the country. It also gives first priority to its customers’ interests and to the management of both financial and extra-financial risks. As a bank that works in the best interest of the community at large, it shares and creates a new relationship with money and the bank along with its customers. Highlights

  • In 2019, and for the fourth year running, La Banque Postale was the leading lender to the local public sector, granting €15.7 billion in loans to over 3,000 regional organisations (local authorities, social housing landlords, local public enterprises and health establishments). Half of the loans are intended for municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants.
  • In 2019, La Banque Postale launched the “Green” loan in order to bolster its strong support for the ecological transition of all local authorities, irrespective of their size or region. It confirms the eligibility of the projects (waste recovery, energy efficiency of public buildings, soft mobility, water) and of the allocation of 100% of the project funding.
  • L’Envol, La Banque Postale’s campus, is a non-profit which promotes equal opportunity, provides support for talented students from modest backgrounds, from high school through to graduate level. This societal sponsorship is provided by volunteers of the Bank and Groupe La Poste.
  • Nearly 2,000 employees promoted in 2019 The École de la Banque et du Réseau provides support for skills transformation and career development for La Banque Postale employees via all types of training, including classroom training, remote interactive and collaborative training, virtual classes, etc.
  • La Banque Postale measures its CO2 emissions and monetises them via a voluntary tax of €10.50/tCO2eq emitted. The money collected is provided to a Carbon Fund, which is used to finance internal emissions reduction projects and carbon offsetting projects in France and internationally. La Banque Postale is one of the very first banks in the world to achieve carbon neutrality throughout its operations (including its subsidiaries and employee business travel and commuting).
  • Over €350 million in green loans was provided to local authorities in early 2020 to finance their projects (clean mobility, water, sanitation, waste recycling, energy efficiency renovations of public buildings, production of renewable energy). For private customers: a special financing offer to encourage energy-saving home improvements and green vehicles.
  • Over 172,000 customers assisted by L’Appui, a telephone platform that provides free personalised budgeting and banking assistance for anyone in financial difficulty. A new system deployed in 2020 makes it possible to identify banking vulnerabilities early and to take preventive action, such as encouraging customers to meet with their advisor, to inform them about the “Simplicité” account option and about L’Appui services.

The second life of ATM machines

  • 440 parts salvaged in 2019.
  • ATM recycling demonstrates La Banque Postale’s interest in developing CSR projects with its partners. In 2019, thanks to the cannibalisation and recycling schemes implemented by a service provider, 440 parts were salvaged from 53 ATMs at the end of their useful life. They will be reused for maintenance.

The “Green Range ” facilitates their energy renovation and ecomobility projects. La Banque Postale’s “Intérêts Solidaires’ ‘ service, which is Finansol certified, makes solidarity based savings available to all. 

Investments with a positive impact on the major challenges of society 

  • 53 labelled funds at the end of 2019 La Banque Postale Asset Management is committed to moving 100% of its assets to responsible management and ensuring that all of its funds are labelled by 2020. 

Responsible and inclusive insurance products In medical deserts

  • 10 telephone appointments covered by the individual top-up policy, and a second opinion service via the ACDS (Assurance Coups Durs Santé – hard times health insurance). One-month reduction for drivers travelling fewer than 8,000 km a year with the “Auto Petit Rouleur” low mileage insurance policy.

La Banque Postale micro-loans

  • 1,000 micro-entrepreneurs supported by Adie in 2019 La Banque Postale and Adie (the Association for the Right to Economic Initiative) assist microentrepreneurs who are customers of the Bank, in launching and operating their businesses via a professional micro-loan.
  • 2,720 personal micro-loans were provided by CréaSol in 2019 The Créa-Sol micro-loan institution provides personal micro-loans to project leaders who are excluded from banking services, via La Banque Postale’s financial and skills sponsorship.

Commitment to crowdfunding

  • Over €100 million in donations have been collected by KissKissBankBank since its creation, for 21,000 community projects
  • Over €25 million were collected in 2019 by its Lendopolis subsidiary to finance energy transition projects in France 
  • 220 solidarity and environmental projects have been supported by Goodeed, which specialises in donations to NGOs and charities, since its creation.

By supporting the growth of local authorities and companies with special offers (green loans for local authorities, micro-credit, finance solutions for very small, small and medium enterprises), La Banque Postale contributes to local economic development and regional growth.

  • “Reduce inequalities”, in particular through La Banque Postale’s accessible banking mission and its constant involvement with vulnerable populations. SDG 13: Climate Action 

  • Aware of the challenges facing the climate and the environment, La Banque Postale has a specific action plan to encourage sustainable finance across its entire business. For private customers, it has developed a special finance offer to encourage energy-saving home improvements and green vehicles. As regards finance for the energy sector, La Banque Postale has decided to fund only renewable energy projects. For local authorities, La Banque Postale’s green loans help fund the energy transition (green transport, water, sanitation, waste recovery, energy saving improvements for public buildings, renewable energy generation). In terms of asset management, La Banque Postale Asset Management (LBPAM) has agreed to ensure all assets under management are in socially responsible investments by the end of 2020. La Banque Postale issued its first green bond in 2019 and has achieved carbon neutrality for the entire of its operational scope.
  • In addition, after signing the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) in 2009 for its asset management business, and the Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI) for its Insurance business in 2012, La Banque Postale also signed up to the Equator Principles for its Financing and Investment Banking and the Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB), as well as the Collective Commitment to Climate Action in 2019. Thanks to these structural commitments, every one of its business areas is now dedicated to applying ESG principles to its operational activities.
