Certificate Description

USDA Organic is a certification for organic foods which are grown and processed according to federal guidelines addressing, among many factors, soil quality, animal raising practices, pest and weed control, and use of additives.

The standards address a variety of factors such as soil quality, animal raising practices, and pest and weed control. Synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, irradiation, and genetic engineering may not be used.

The certification is developed and managed by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the federal executive department responsible for developing and executing federal laws related to farming, forestry, rural economic development, and food.
